Model: E250DHLSEC S/Due north: 0.05241800 in March 2020, motor had 484.2 hours. second or tertiary trip to lake with one.v mile long no wake zone and when coming out of the zone, could not go motor to rev over 2K rpm. Took back to mechanic..... Scheduled service with BRP certified dealer 5 hours away. Returned home 3 hrs dorsum. Used boat for perhaps 6 more fishing trips. Some to a river where WOT is used and some to a 10 MPH merely lake. Late July 2020, went to ten MPH lake and mid-day could not go gunkhole over 1.5K rpm Aug ane, dropped gunkhole at BRP certified dealer. Aug 7 They replaced spark plugs, checked compression (100 all cyl.) lake tested boat and alleged all expert. Aug 12 went to lake with low and high speed sections. Used no-wake for ane mile. Ran motor at 3500 rpm for 1+ miles and motor would surge..... ran to iv.5k and motor ran smooth once more. Aug 13 went dorsum to 10 mph simply lake. After 10 min. of running could not get over 2K rpm. Could get to idle, rev motor gradually to 4K and and then tap throttle to accomplish WOT then could go adequately normal performance. After another 5 to ten minutes of slow functioning can't get over 2K rpm once again. After reading posts on this site tin can come across there are many possibilities for spark plug fouling. I besides see that diagnostic printout is all-time tool to get answers. 1st question - are diagnostics available on Web any skillful? Where to go diagnostics to attach to this post? HISTORY - 6/xiii 3 twelvemonth, 300 hr service at BRP certified dealer Replace plugs, fuel filters, lower unit of measurement lube every two years since so Motor is used very few hours per year, moderate rpms, occassional WOT operation. Considerations: one) buy all tools to DIY this problem ii) notice a dealer who has experience with plug fouling 3) travel dorsum and forth for v hours and look 2 weeks between trips until dealer replaces enough parts to eventually set up problem. 4) sell/trade motor __________________ Tlb

This engine don't like to idle much, even so should non be cause for trouble, were the plugs indexed properly, right plugs? sound like is running rich may be, there are a lots of mail hither in this site referring to EvDiag software, __________________ 1994 24 WA Baha 2008 300 HP DPXSC Due south/N 05228253 xv one/4 X 19 Mirage Plus 47 MPH elevation end @ 5,750 RPM 32 MPH cruising @ 12.5 g/h South Florida

Start and foremost have a expert look at the exhaust back pressure level nipple. This is usually disregarded by many technicians. If this does not solve your problem you need to determine which cylinder or cylinders is/are the cause of your problems. To do this apace you need to hook up the motor to a figurer and do a cylinder drop test while the motor is exhibiting symptoms. Once you determine which cylinder has a trouble, you need to have cosmetic action. Firstly, you demand to cheque that the sparkplug is of the right type, is correctly indexed and is correctly gapped. Next I would await at the reeds. If reeds are OK, you might have an injector leaking. A simple home clean up might be enough simply ideally it should be cleaned professionally (no problem if you alive in u.s.).

Cheers ALL. You have consolidated much of the data I had read earlier publishing this mail. You lot've answered many of my questions, peculiarly about diags. My programme forward - use free diags and transmission to "meet." Will buy USB to serial cable from the source y'all provided. Will and so invest in service transmission, diagnostics, and whatever tools for DIY service going forward. I accept an auto mechanic friend who just acquired a 2008 225 ETEC with 54 hours. I know we tin can accept "projects" together to keep these things ticking similar clocks. To respond some questions: I have e'er used XD-100. At 1 indicate, perchance 3 years ago, the motor was set for XD-100 merely at the final service where spark plugs were changed I was told that motor is, and should be, on XD-50. (part of what I'll check and set with diags - hopefully) All mechanics who have worked on this motor have indexed plugs. I believe the exhaust nipple was replaced at less than 100 hours for some reason, tin can't discover service record only this will exist ane of the offset things to be replaced, based on multiple inputs from you I volition also replace VST and all other filters that typically are overlooked. All six plugs look identical - all fouled. Hopefully, diags will evidence if at that place is any running difference in any cylinders. Champion QC8WEP had run in motor for last 2 years, were the ones installed in March and are the ones currently in the motor (replaced again in Aug). I'll post diag. results hither when I become that done.......perhaps inside a calendar week. Over again, many cheers __________________ Tlb

What makes you think or guess the plugs are fouling? What is considered carbon fouling on the E-TEC plugs is fluffy soft carbon in thick deposits on ceramic and dorsum of ground electrode. Pictures of existent E-TEC plug fouling posted on the forum, search. Delight post pictures of your plugs. eleven twelvemonth old boat/motor has lots of points of failure and usage wear. What the symptoms you describe for your motor, some type of fuel blockage brake/air leakage into fuel>boat fuel system or motor, intermittent spark ignition cutout, or intermittent injector pulse fire indicate from EMM. Going to require some diligent assay troubleshooting on your role to find the cause. Guessing and parts throwing leads to one thing, bled dry out wallet and owner/user frustration. 3 year service in likewise many depression quality dealer shops is piss pour and not even minimum maintenance. Spark plugs are seldom the trouble in these but a real shop and tech money makers. Quick fast and easy to convince the owner they need replacing. Ask effectually the docks and other fisherman for the best Due east-TEC tech in your region. They are worth more than than their weight in gold. Care for him well, skid him a Ben Franklin for major service/repairs. Nosotros demand the latest Engine History Report from your EMM after latest run. Run Oly's Basics First and Foremost. ane. Same spark intensity to all plugs. test with inductive timing lite. 4. Fuel pressure tests per SM of motor LP and primary pump. Any loud or grinding noise from chief electric fuel pump? Vacuum and air bubble leak tests on boat fuel system. Amazing how much damage onetime fuel hose will practise to an outboard. What's the boat's WOT rpms when it's running correctly and full power? This is critical in E-TECs. Should be a minimum of 5500 rpms with heavy load, MAX fuel passengers gear and water ice chests. Or you can go along up the guessing game and finish up with a gutless Merc or Yammie on the dorsum. What model gunkhole it's on and is there a jackplate? What type of gauges, Counterpart or Digital on NMEA2000 network?

Cheers for all the thought to this issue. ane) bleeding wallet and possessor frustration is underway Spark plug modify in Aug - $400 + 20 hr travel (ii trips at x hours 5 upwardly and v back) ii) Who says plugs are fouled? Only novices have offered that notion since when problem first occurred mechanic cleaned plugs and boat ran groovy as long as there was functioning of gunkhole at speed, over three.5K rpm. When trouble occurred 2d time the certified dealer asked me "what's the last time these plugs were changed." and so declared " these plugs are all fouled up." He had already replaced them and the gunkhole was running great - once more at speed. On trip home from dealer (five hours) I used boat at speed and had no trouble. Before loading boat on trailer, I ran at WOT for 10 minutes to clean out engine. The next trip to lake some tedious speed running caused surging when running well-nigh 3.5 k. Could run at higher rpm and all was proficient. Very adjacent trip, side by side day and 10 minutes of 1.5K running and motor would non rev to a higher place 2K. Could put in neutral and rev motor over 4K with outburst to WOT to resolve issue and then could and so stay under 10 mph spped limit at well-nigh 2.5K rpm. ACTION PLAN: Thanks for all you inputs. I'll try to get all this washed. Ii pictures of plugs take been attached (I promise). The plug on the left was running in motor for 2 years and came out in March. The three on the left were in motor from March to Aug. Somehow the second movie got flipped......the Three together are on the right in 1st picture and on the left in 2nd movie. I will exist going to ten MPH lake tomorrow and volition remove a plug when I return and post here. I am currently trying to get the diagnostics and cables per other responses to this post. Every bit presently as can become more data, I'm eager to go information technology posted as well. All the advice offered thus far is greatly appreciated and reduces frustration somewhat. __________________ Tlb

Those aren't heavily carboned. Leaking injector nozzles or carboned up noozle pintle tips from over propping low WOT rpms. Fuel force per unit area leakdown injector test in the E. SM, hands pinpoints leaking nozzles. Wet plugs tin as well be to due weak fuel pump causing depression loftier pressure fuel to injectors, resulting in anemic spray more drops than fine mist which does not combust well Motor frazzle will also aroma like raw gasoline if nozzles leaking which pumps the raw gas out on the exhaust stroke. Fuel wet plugs do not produce the same symptoms as carbon fouled plugs Or cylinder miss fires due to number of possible reasons, low compression, defective coils, leaking head gasket, weak spark, etc. Testing will observe your frustration culprit. In one case the failure reason is establish and cured, do a consummate engine internal cleaning. Will be lots of excess carbon dirt and grit build up in the motor from the incomplete combustion of the all the gas. Follow past 3x dose of Eastward. Fuel Organisation injector cleaner in 6 gal port. tank on the h2o ran difficult. Then aforementioned with 3x dose of E. Carbon Guard in port. tank. You lot may take to pull the injectors and sent in for cleaning/testing at i of the injector shops listed on the forum, especially whatsoever that neglect the injector leak down exam. My rig I would pull and transport injectors to injector shop and examine injector ports in the heads for carbon buildup. Break as much of the carbon buildup out of the injector ports, and then blow the cylinders out with compressed air, lots of 100psi+ with plugs out. Moderately common on these motors to have problems with injectors; corrosion, carbon buildup, burned out open coils from plugged VST fuel cooler water flow, etc. Is there a boat mounted water separator/dirt filter. Critical for long injector life in these, protects once more motor fuel system corrosion plugging nozzles, impinging injector moving curl machinery and pintle that produces the 600 psi fuel sprayed into combustion chamber.

Some updates: I've created a DropBox account and believe folks can see more detail on the larger spark plug photos. (same photos - larger file size). Only pocket-size files can be added to this forum. Hither is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1gf6190btz31b3i/AABvoZBctLb9Nz-PO-L267_qa?dl=0 I just tried it in new browser window and I meet what I expected. Dirty spark plugs UPDATED HOURS: My Lowraance sonar/gps unit was attached last night which has the Evinrude interface. Actual hours on motor are 456.4 Motor was run for ane.2 hours today. At beginning of operation (after five min. of 1.5K rpm operation) motor "loaded upward" briefly when I was unable to rev over 2K. Put in neutral, revved to 4k with flare-up to 6K. That resulted in seemingly normal use on 10 MPH simply lake. POSSIBILITY: 92 octane, non-ethanol was added to near empty tanks Fuel that had been in tanks is 87 octane Chevron with Evinrude 2+4 Fuel Conditioner. Possible higher octane fuel gave motor relief. This motor has run on more than not-ethanol than treated ethanol. There was a question about external fuel filtering. None. Have relied on internal water separator and in-line fuel filters. Both were replaced at 424 (vice 484) hours. Side by side STEPS: Diagnostics and cables are on guild. Expect to take diag data posted here or in a dropbox this weekend or early adjacent week. Cheers ALL for the help. __________________ Tlb

Wait at your engine temperatures on your Lowrance unit. Stuck open thermostats can cause the engine to run cold at low speeds simply would non affect high speeds.

Received the EVdiag from PowerSports Diagnostics. Here is the link to the .pdf file output: https://world wide web.dropbox.com/home/250%20HO%20Spark%20Plug%20PICS/EVdiag%20Output%20and%20new%20spark%20plug%20pic# Spark plugs for cylinders #one and #4 were removed and photographed with previous plugs used. On the right in the photo are plugs from cylinders ane and four and ran in the motor from April 2018 to March 2020. Boat only used April to Sept each year. The plugs in the center of the movie went in motor in March 2020 (424 hrs) and came out on Aug eight, 2020. The two plugs on the left are likewise from cyl. 1 and 4 and are currently running in the motor with approximately 3 hrs of running. The last time motor was run was 15 minutes of WOT with a curt low speed menses to trailer. Link to photograph: https://world wide web.dropbox.com/home/250%20HO%20Spark%20Plug%20PICS/EVdiag%20Output%20and%20new%20spark%20plug%20pic# Currently pending to get on schedule with highly qualified E-TEC mechanic. I invite your comments about EVdiag output. __________________ Tlb

It's time to update this entry. Got keen service at Channel Marine Services in Scappoose, Oregon. Gregg and Fred analyzed my plug problem is a result of a history of running too much prop. With 450+ hours at that place was a mere 5 seconds of rpms over 6100. Propeller was switched from 26 to 24 pitch. Now, the Rev limiter can be reached at WOT with a slight scrap of over-trim. Also, thermostats were changed (updated) to increase depression speed engine temps. Time will tell. __________________ Tlb
