Nearly the LGAA:
The Los Gatos Art Association (LGAA) is a non-profit organisation defended to the education, enrichment and support of the arts community. Our mission is to promote creative expression in the visual fine arts past fostering high standards, extending appreciation, and encouraging cooperation and esprit among artists. Monthly meetings are currently held in Los Gatos over zoom so that artists can interact, network and make connections, and watch an fine art demonstration. In person meetings will resume in 2022 TBD. The LGAA also features annual member exhibits, peer awards shows, a monthly instagram gallery, and a weekly Plein Air group.
ABOUT the GBAO:
The Greater Bay Area Open (GBAO) is a fine art competition of 2D and 3D artwork presented by the Los Gatos Art Association in partnership with NUMU, New Museum Los Gatos, and held in Los Gatos, CA at NUMU, New Museum Los Gatos. Artwork selected for this competition will exist shown over a 5-week menstruation.
EXHIBITION THEME:
The theme is "Listen Larn Change Grow."
JURORS:
Preston Metcalf:
As a museum Curator, and as Executive Manager of the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, CA, Preston Metcalf has worked with many of the most renowned artists in the state, showcasing their works in exhibitions and publications. In addition to his curatorial part, he helped create innovative art and art history education programs for public schools and children's hospitals, providing free programming and classes for thousands of kids, teens, and adults. He has lectured internationally on art and art history and published more than than sixty essays, manufactures, and books on artists and their work. He is a regular lecturer of Art History at colleges and universities throughout the region.
Julie Ericsson:
Equally an Art Curator at NUMU, New Museum Los Gatos with over ten years of experience in the arts, Julie organizes exhibition concepts, liaises with artists, and writes didactic content for each show. In 2020, she reprised her seat on the NUMU exhibitions team, previously having served as the Exhibition and Graphic Designer from 2014 to 2017. She holds an M.A. in Museum Studies from George Washington University, and a B.A. in Art History and Studio Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Julie has served at institutions such every bit Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, de Young Museum, Hillyer International Arts and Artists, National Museum of American History and National Air and Space Museum.
ELIGIBILITY:
This competition is open to all artists (18 years of age or older) who are residents of the greater Bay Surface area which includes all areas from Napa Valley, CA through Carmel, CA.
RULES:
Works must be created by the artist, original in concept, and completed within the last iii years. Artwork accustomed must be able to exist displayed in the New Museum of Los Gatos as they are presented in their submitted digital epitome. Work previously shown at whatsoever Los Gatos art museum, work done nether teacher, article of clothing fine art or jewelry, functional ceramic, crafts, installations, or video/ films, copies, or giclées, are not allowed in the show.
MEDIUMS:
There will exist six categories: Oils, Acrylics, Watercolors, Mixed/Other, Photo/Digital, and 3D sculpture. All mediums accepted, except as noted in RULES above.
AWARDS:
Awards totaling up to $6000: Prizes of Offset Identify $400, Second Place $200, Third Place $100, and honorable mentions – are all chosen past the jurors. Commencement prizes are awarded in all 6 categories. 2nd prizes are awarded in categories with 10 or more than entries. Third prizes are awarded in categories with 15 or more entries. Six prizes of $300 awarded as Sponsor Awards—are chosen past corresponding sponsors. Please contact Elke Groves at 408.857.5498 to become a sponsor.
2D ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:
Two dimensional (2D) artwork must not exceed 30" in either direction (including frame) and minimum artwork size (excluding frame) is 8" ten 10" or 80 foursquare inches. Accustomed 2D artwork must be adequately framed, wired, and prepare for hanging. Wire MUST be in good condition, and taut, attached with D-rings merely—no protruding eye hooks or saw molar hangers. No framing with force per unit area spring clips used for attaching the hanging wire will be accepted. Canvas edges must be clean, or painted, with no visible staples. Plexiglas glazing is preferred. Artist is responsible for whatsoever damage resulting from glass glazing material.
3D ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:
Three dimensional (3D) artworks shall be either stand alone or pedestal based. Stand-alone sculpture is not to exceed 84 x 18 x 18 (84 inches tall by 18 inches wide by 18 inches deep) nor counterbalance more than than 75 lbs. Pedestal based sculpture is not to exceed 36 10 18 x eighteen (36 inches tall by 18 inches wide by eighteen inches deep) nor counterbalance more than than 40 lbs.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
All artwork submissions will be in digital format but using the online site www.onlinejuriedshows.com. A maximum of five (5) artworks from each artist may exist submitted. Images must be in .JPG format, nether 4 mb, at least 1920 dpi on the longest side, with a resolution of 72 dpi.
ENTRY FEES (Non-refundable):
First Entry:
$55 for general
$45 for LGAA members
$25 for emerging artists
Subsequent Entries: $15 (4 maximum)
SALES:
All artwork must be for sale. The GBAO is a fundraiser, and there will exist a 40% committee on sales of artwork past non-LGAA members, and a xxx% commission on piece of work by LGAA members. All sales will be handled by the LGAA, with proceeds less commission delivered to the artist at cease of show. Artwork must remain in the show until end of testify .
NOTIFICATION: Submitting artists will be notified on Mon January 17, 2022 of juror results. If notification is not received by January 18, 2022, please electronic mail: GBAO@lgaa.org.
Accustomed ARTWORK: Artists whose artwork is accustomed into GBAO 2022 will be provided with detailed information on where and when to evangelize the artwork. Artwork must be hand delivered to NUMU, New Museum Los Gatos on January 23, 2022 between 10am and 1pm. No artwork shipments will be accepted.
